Jumble of Delights

Our first day at Hong Kong! After 2 slackish days in Macau, we are really excited about Hong Kong. So here we are at this bustling city with people speaking Cantonese. lol. Its like Hong Kong drama happening all around me.

After the ferry ride from Macau, we took the MTR to Causeway Bay to check into our hostel. We decided on Studios HK and booked it through Hostels.com  2 months before our trip. We shared a room for about Sgd30 a night.

:)

As one of Hong Kong’s major shopping districts. Causeway Bay is a paradise! Just around the corner we have Japanese department store Sogo and Times Square, an indoor shopping complex, smaller malls such as World Trade Centre, Windsor House, Hang Lung Centre, Fashion Island, Fashion Walk, Lee Gardens and Lee Gardens Two. Nonetheless, this is also one of the most crowded areas in Hong Kong being a popular social spot for young people. The crowd on weekends is really worst than Singapore.

Anyway our hotel is really quite good! It is 5 minutes from Causeway Bay MTR and the tram track is just a a street away! What’s more, I didn’t expect the hostel to be located somewhere along Fashion Walk.

The entrance looks posh as compared to those hostels located at Tsim Tsa Tsui! It is also very safe because the glass doors are actually locked and you need a password to open it.

Below is the busy junction near our hostel and the Causeway Bay MTR. The Tsing Dao billboard is like a landmark for us to find our way back!

Jardine's Crescent

Jardine Crescent market is conveniently located in a bustling Causeway Bay and clothing is the main buy, but other items, such as handbags, hair accessories, cheap make up and jewellery popular are also on offer. I bought a brush because we forgot to bring one! haha. Then saw some of famous local food – Wax duck and Chinese sausages!

We saw a popular fruit stall with lots of filipinos maids buying baby oranges. So sweetheart picked a few oranges.

We were hungry then found this noodle house with loads of positive PR write-ups at the shop front.

The broth is so clear and refreshing! The rice noodles are tot greasy and tender! The price is ok, around hkd12-14/bowl. Hmm but the ingredients are fresh and they don’t scrimp on it!

We decided to maximise our 3 day unlimited MTR rides so we took the train to Sham Shui Po because we are heading to Apliu Street!  The huge flea market at Apliu is famous for electronics and I’ve seen a TVB drama that revolves around people living at this street. Haha once we got out of the MTR we saw food again! Looks like some kind of Sichuan-looking soup and fishballs? ok too full now, will give this a miss.

Yeah there were alot of developments, building and construction going on. And the bamboos they use in Hongkong reminds me of Jackie Chan’s stunts when he falls off buildings/attempts some spiderman moves.

Not long after, we spotted a shop selling cakes and pastries! Then I saw this familiar kuih! White and fluffy.

Baby prefered red bean so he got himself that brown looking one which taste ok.

Not planning to buy any electronics stuff, we decided to take a stroll down to Mongkok. Followed the map and on our way, we saw this old man selling an interesting traditional coconut sweet around Prince Edward area! MUST TRY!

Goodness can you see how flakilicious it is?  haha yes I made that word up. It is flaky and sweet! Not too sweet but just nice! We shared one because we want to leave some space for other snacks along the way!

As we followed the road, we found ourselves at the Goldfish Market at Tung Choi Street south of Prince Edward Road West. Obviously this is the place for fish lovers but guess what we found.

There’s this weird garbage smell but it also smell like blue cheese. We were wondering what smell is that from a street away!

Goodnesss. We’ve found stinky tofu! This fermented tofu is like the trademark for street food and we were so excited to have chance upon it! Most of the time we see it on TV!

We shopped around mongkok then remember that baby’s friend recommended a special place to grab dinner.

Ah we went back feeling really full and had a good night sleep! Had to be prepared for tomorrow!!

Where am I?
